It hardly seems possible but exactly 6 months ago today, Camille and I moved to Fulton. We could have never in our wildest dreams predicted the past 6 months! Who could? In spite of it all, we have settled in and are enjoying our new life in Mississippi. God has confirmed in many ways that His hand was guiding us to come here and we are truly grateful.
While I was thinking about this 6 month mark suddenly it dawned on me that Camille and I are not the only ones who have needed to adjust since our arrival. In fact, that is really what I wanted to focus on in this blog post. The other “party” in this 6 month relationship: Y’all. Successful ministries really aren’t just about how well the Minister fits in and whether or not they like their current situation. Successful ministries happen as Minister, Leadership and Flock all work as one to accomplish the things we sense God leading us to accomplish.
I am sure if you ask the Elders they would tell you that they are learning to adjust to a new Minister. Some of my ways and methods perhaps seem strange and require time and patience to make sure we understand each other and move forward in a united way. Bro. Ryan is learning to adjust to my oddities and doing his part to be supportive, united and moving forward together. And the Flock is learning to adjust to my preaching style, personality and differences that perhaps take some getting used to.
In short, I hope all of us are celebrating this past 6 month milestone because all of us have a stake in it. As more time passes, we will become better acquainted with each others’ strengths and weaknesses. Yes, I said weaknesses. We all have them and one of the things life continues to show me about myself is that God has designed His Body, the Church as a functioning, nurturing Body. You can help me when I am weak and I can help you in return.
So, the bottom line is that this is “our” 6 month anniversary! Let’s all celebrate the fact that the Holy Spirit is moving among us and is building the Body. Let’s all celebrate that God loves us and has a grand purpose for us. Let’s all celebrate that God is able to take all of us and bring glory to His name through us. Let’s all also seek to celebrate our differences, even though they may take some adjustment on our part. Happy 6 Month Anniversary!
